Our assistants are certified by the Florida Association of Orthodontists, maintain CPR certification, participate in continuing education, and complete OSHA safety and HIPAA privacy training every year.
Meet Dr. Zell
Named a “Top Orthodontist” by her peers in Jacksonville Magazine, Dr. Zell is highly respected in the professional world. Dentists and healthcare professionals trust her knowledge and expertise and have come to expect clinical excellence for their patients. They know she has an impeccable work ethic and delivers a level of care that is of the highest standards.
Dr. Zell completed her three-year orthodontic residency with a master’s degree from one of the most prestigious orthodontic programs in the country, the University of North Carolina. While at UNC she received the Freedland Advanced Dental Education Fellowship and was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics for research with Dr. William Proffit, the father of modern orthodontics.
Prior to attending UNC, she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Louisiana State University, where she was a representative for the American Student Dental Association, President of the C. Edmund Kells Honorary Society, and received the Dean’s Award. She holds degrees from Purdue University in Chemical Engineering and DePauw University in Liberal Arts, graduating summa cum laude.
Dr. Zell is passionate about her work and truly enjoys her patients, which is evident through her friendly, personable style. She volunteers her time to serve on the Jacksonville Cleft and Craniofacial Team and is a member of multiple professional associations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, and the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Northeast Florida. Dr. Zell and her husband, John, reside in the Riverside/Avondale area of Jacksonville with their English Mastiff Abby.

I am very proud to say I have worked with Dr. Zell for 4 years. She is a dedicated professional who is passionate about her work, genuinely caring with her patients, generous with staff and always a leader. One of my favorite stories of working here is about a mother of a young patient who was not ready for treatment. The mother felt very at ease and was so appreciative of our time that she came back four hours later with a handmade gift and said, “I will never forget your kindness.” It’s stories like this, and hugs from patients, that make my day.

I have been a dental assistant for 26 years and smiles are everything to me. I love seeing a patient’s giant smile and how incredibly happy they are when their braces come off. Because each patient’s teeth are unique, every day presents something new or challenging. But one thing is for certain, I always have fun getting to know each patient on a personal level. I look forward to their next visit to find out about their sport, an exam, a wedding or a birth. I truly enjoy hearing about their lives, which in turn brings a smile to my face.

My mother was a major influence in my pursuit of orthodontics. For 35 years she worked in orthodontics, therefore I grew up being very familiar with the field. I was always captivated by orthodontics and, happily 15 years later, I still feel the same way. I love working with Dr. Zell. She educates the staff every day to make us better, while her gentle and complimentary nature makes us feel appreciated. I don’t have a favorite story or moment because every day is my favorite. When a patient has a great experience it shows in their smile, the gleam in their eye or their hug goodbye.
